Hunger strike?

Monday, February 07, 2005

Jacob our 2 yr old has always been slim. Last year at his check-up they requested that we bring him in every two months for weighing. After about 6 months they said wait until his 3 yr check-up, he seems to be doing ok (not gaining tons but hanging onto the 10 percentile for weight). The Doctor was happy, yet said "keep at it, he needs all the calories he can get." You try convincing a 2 yr old to eat... &%@#... actually I really like the doctor I just find it frustrating.

Well the past two weeks he has slowly been eating less and less again. Last week when we were away he ate very little (me thinking he was out of sorts)... yesterday he ate, 2 minigo yogurts (64 cal each) 1/2 a cereal bar (70 cal) 3 8oz cups of milk, and a handful of fruit loops (the craft at church)...

I don't know if I'm paranoid or what but he looks like he has slimed down... argh!!!!!!!!!!!! We don't have a scale in our house (for good reason), but I think I am going to go back to the calorie thick shakes from Shoppers Drugmart! If all he wants to do is drink milk then I will be sure to pump in the calories when he does!!!!

Well, off I go to convince Jake to eat Bologna (gross to me but it is another food he sometimes allows me to feed him).

Have you tried the pediasure shakes? In the states, the doctors like them for "fattening up" our babies. My kids are all barely on the charts (right around the 5%) too.

My doctors have all said as long as the kids don't start losing weight that we shouldn't worry. Also try to keep track of what Jacob eats over the course of a week not a day. Kids are such finicky eaters but usually they get what they need over the course of a week.

    Good Luck! :)

How is the nose ring? Well I hope your 2year old starts to put on weight. I think the milkshakes are a good idea. How about Jamba Juice with their extras? I had a friend who's daughter had the same problem and the doctor told her to use the protein shakes.. I wish I had this problem with myself!

You know him best, so do what you have to do. We use butter, lactose free of course, but it sure helps. You are lucky, you would be able to use pediasure. Do whatever you have to do! At least he is in the 10th percentile. I would die for that one for Oliver. Maybe it's the weather, Oliver is on another hunger strike too.....

I might add he is in the 90 percentile for height... that is why they worry so!

Lean and lanky? nope... scrawny and ?
